Introduction to Robotic Automation  

The arena of automation and mechatronics is growing dramatically and this Introduction to Robotic Automation is one of several courses we have in a series focused on direct application of these technologies to industry.

In this course you will learn about the various microcontrollers and their applications through lessons, applied projects, and Internet study. In class we will focus on the Arduino/Atmel AVR hardware platform. We feel this teaches students efficiency in design and creates the most cost effective systems available. As with all our classes, we make sure students are always aware of where to buy, cost, and availability of all components so they can leave class fully prepared to continue their building on their own.

All our robotics courses are designed to tie in with each other in order to teach students how to design, build, and program their own devices to help automate any process. For example, while the Mechanical Automation Systems Engineering course focus on more of the physical materials needed to move and manufacture a product, with some installation of electronic control systems, Introduction to Robotic Automation works strongly on the electronic side creating custom electronics to manipulate these physical systems.

Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for this course, however, a dedication to class and an ability to do outside research is necessary.

  • Soldering
  • Basic circuit design
  • Interfacing with a microcontroller
  • Simple C / C++ coding basics
  • Uploading code into the microcontroller
  • Sensors, encoders, and other peripheral devices
